Drugs, Vaccines & Diagnostics

One tragic feature of the Ebola epidemic that started in 2013 is that there were no vaccines available to stop it, and not a single antiviral drug on the shelves to give to patients. This is one reason why so many people in West Africa died. Once the epidemic was in full swing, the development of drugs and vaccines was greatly accelerated, however.

This section gives you an overview of the drug and vaccine development process in general, and for Ebola in particular.

It is divided in three subsections: The Process, The Problem, and The Pipeline. There is also a Vocabulary & Resources section. Definitions of words marked with an asterisk are found there.
