What is the WFSJ International Press Card?

The World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) is proud to introduce the WFSJ International Press Card, the only globally recognized credential for science journalists. This card provides official identification and facilitates access to press conferences, government meetings, and scientific events, particularly in countries where national press cards are unavailable.

The WFSJ International Press Card is available exclusively to individuals who are active members of WFSJ-affiliated national or regional science journalist organizations.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, you must:

  1. Be an active member of a WFSJ-affiliated national or regional science journalists’ organization.
  2. Provide documentation proving your work as an active science journalist, including published articles, broadcasts, or journalistic contributions.
  3. Obtain sponsorship from the President of your WFSJ-affiliated national association.
  4. Ensure your national association is in good standing with WFSJ, including up-to-date membership fees.

Required Documents

  • Links to published work: Links to 3 articles/science journalism works published within the last one year, or a letter from your editor confirming that you work as a science journalist.
  • Proof of Identity: A scanned copy of the photo page of your passport,  a driver’s license or any national ID
  • Endorsement Letter: A signed sponsorship letter from the President of your WFSJ-affiliated national association.
  • Passport-Style Photograph: A recent high-resolution JPEG image for your press card.

 

Fees & Validity

The WFSJ Press Card is valid for two (2) years from the date of issuance.

You can choose between a digital card (fee: CAD 50) or physical card (fee: CAD 100). Payment details will be provided upon approval of your application.

Data Protection & Privacy

By submitting your application, you agree that WFSJ will collect, process, and store your personal information strictly for administrative purposes related to your press card. Your information will not be shared externally.

Additionally, WFSJ is preparing a Global Science Journalism Directory, allowing members to connect based on location, expertise, and professional activities. If you wish to be included, you may provide optional additional details in the application form.
