A Meeting of Minds and Makers in Scientific Journalism

The World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) is one of the main activities of the WFSJ. The WCSJ is the biggest biannual global event on science journalism, attracting approximately 1,200 journalists covering science and medical issues, as well as international experts, scientists, and communicators, among others. The 10th World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ2017) in San Francisco (26–30 October 2017) was attended by more than 1,360 people from over 70 countries.

The WCSJ offers a wide variety of programmes that aim to expand the horizons of participants from different backgrounds through lively discussions and workshops.

Until 2019 any WFSJ member association could bid to organize a World Conference. As our events have become larger and more complex to arrange, the WFSJ Board of Directors decided that the organization should evolve. It has recruited a professional conference organizer who will manage all logistics, venue, accommodations, and so forth. The WFSJ community will be responsible for the programme and content.

2022 World Conference of Science Journalists - Medellín

Nicknamed the City of Eternal Spring, the 2022 World Conference is taking place in the picturesque setting of Medellín, Colombia. The city and its surroundings will host a week of education, collaboration, and presentations by and for the Science Journalism community members, all framed around the very apt theme of “reboot” (something we could all use after a year of pandemic-related change).

The conference will run from June 27 to July 1, 2022, with a virtual experience that begins on June 13. This is an unrivalled opportunity for us to come together as a community, to engage in workshops, lectures, seminars, and discussions that are sure to entertain and captivate. And with the many different components to this gathering, we may have a turnout on the order of 3,000 people for events at Medellin’s Plaza Mayor Medellín Conventions and Exhibitions center as well as the virtual conference activities.
